State-of-the-art radiation therapy technologies
At the Radiation Oncology Center, we offer some of the most advanced radiation therapy technologies available worldwide. Each technology is designed to target cancer cells with unmatched precision, leading to more effective treatment while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues.
Four-Dimensional (4D) CT Scanner
Our 4D CT scanner is a critical tool in radiation treatment planning. This system allows us to track tumors in real time, accounting for natural body movements like breathing. This ensures that radiation is delivered with extreme precision, improving treatment accuracy and reducing side effects.
CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System
The CyberKnife® is one of the most advanced non-invasive radiation technologies in the world. Unlike traditional radiation systems, CyberKnife® uses a robotic arm to deliver high-dose radiation with pinpoint accuracy. This allows us to treat tumors that were previously considered inoperable, including those in the brain, spine, lungs and liver.
TrueBeam Radiotherapy System
The TrueBeam system represents the next generation of radiation therapy, offering greater accuracy and shorter treatment times. By delivering radiation more precisely, TrueBeam allows for faster, more comfortable sessions with improved cancer-targeting capabilities.
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
IGRT combines radiation therapy with real-time imaging to ensure that each treatment session is as accurate as possible. By taking daily images before each treatment, our team can adapt radiation delivery to account for changes in the tumor’s position, improving effectiveness while protecting surrounding healthy tissues.
Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT) – RapidArc®
VMAT (also known as RapidArc®) is an advanced radiation therapy technique that delivers treatment in a continuous 360-degree rotation. This allows radiation to be administered more quickly, typically in under two minutes, reducing the time patients need to remain still while maximizing treatment effectiveness.
Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
IMRT is a highly precise radiation therapy that uses computer-controlled beams to shape radiation doses to match the exact size and shape of a tumor. This technique allows for higher radiation doses to be delivered to cancerous tissue while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy areas, making it particularly useful for head, neck, and prostate cancers.
Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
SBRT delivers high-dose radiation to small, well-defined tumors over a shorter treatment period (typically two to five sessions). This technique is especially effective for lung, liver, and spinal tumors, offering superior precision and minimal side effects compared to traditional radiation therapy.
Convenient locations for radiation therapy
We are committed to making world-class cancer treatment accessible to as many patients as possible. In addition to our Savannah location, we also provide radiation oncology services at our Bluffton and Hilton Head, S.C., centers. No matter where you choose to receive care, you can trust that our team is dedicated to providing the highest level of expertise and support.
